First Solo Flight of SP Limcaoco

In the morning of August 8, 2016, Student Pilot Romeo “RJ” Limcaoco Jr., a product of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, achieved the highlight of his early flying career, the “1st Solo Flight” courtesy of Senior FI Capt. Lance Concepcion.

It is good that during the first period, the weather was still flyable, hence, releasing for 1st Solo was never a concern for the Checker. However, by the time S.P. Limcaoco was released for solo, the wind condition deteriorated when he was already within the traffic pattern where he attempted to land but was forced to make two (2) go-arounds due to strong gusty wind. Finally, when the S.P. assessed that it was safe to land on the 3rd attempt, he was able to gain the CONFIDENCE, made a smooth touchdown for a full-stop landing.

Attaining the much coveted feat in a clearly dramatic manner, luck was on the side of S.P. Limcaoco, because as soon as he made his full-stop, the 2nd period for flight training was declared suspended up to the 4th period due to the deteriorating weather condition, a “Go-no-Go” Safety Policy of the flight school.

Thus, with this apparent display of airmanship during a weather phenomenon, the young and daring eaglet is all the more qualified and tested to safely explore and conquer the infinite vastness of the horizon as well as the clear blue skies of San Fernando Airport, La Union, the home sanctuary of the Eagles’ Nest of the Leading Edge!
