As expected, two (2) of the newly reported flightless eaglets at LEIAAI’s Pilot training hub successfully achieved their first solo flights on a weekend, a Friday and a Saturday, the peak of the Annual Sillag Festival celebration hosted by the Poro Point Management Corporation (PPMC). Last Friday, April 5, 2019 on an unusually cloudy weather condition, Student Pilot John Henry Mendoza Tan, a dashing 22 year old native down south of Cagayan de Oro City and a BS Civil Engineering graduate of De La Salle University, Manila soloed on or about 0925H courtesy of Capt RJ Tejada on board RP-9459.

The entire country is experiencing the peak of the summer season as recently declared by Pagasa which is good news in our overall flight training operations. At LEIAAI’s AOR (Area of Responsibility), the weather is always flyable not only lately these past few days but also in the 1st quarter 2019. This weather phenomenon obviously was very favorable as far as flight training operations as well as the critical soloing phase is concerned, with the generally clear blue skies as well as wind calm condition.

The school’s level of flight training operations in the 1st Quarter 2019 is considered a major record breaking phase as far as the first three (3) months’ accomplishment is concerned compared to the previous similar periods in the more than 11 year history of LEIAAI. Aside from logging the highest flying time in a month last March, it is noteworthy that the school also recorded the highest flying time in one (1) quarter,

Thank God it’s Friday (TGIF). When it rains it pours! Not rain water, but the sustained flight training operations as well as the incessant soloing of newly reported flightless eaglets at LEIAAI’s training hub at San Fernando Airport, La Union. Apparently, this very clear weather Friday morning, March 29, 2019, a historical record breaking event transpired with the school logging an aggregate total of 2,565.02 flying hours on the last flying day this March, making it the highest flying time in a month.
